Matt Eirich

President and Chief Executive Officer, Alo and Avance Care

Matt Eirich joined Alo as President and Chief Executive Officer in August 2021. He also serves as CEO of Avance Care. Throughout Matt’s 20+ year career in health care, he has built and scaled businesses to enable providers to capture emerging growth opportunities and transition to value-based care. Matt was drawn to Alo’s mission to help independent physicians thrive by redesigning how health care works.

Prior to joining Alo, Matt served as the first Chief Growth Officer for Humana’s primary care brands, CenterWell and Conviva, two of the largest senior-focused, value-based primary care businesses in the country. In that role, Matt was responsible for the growth of new and existing practices, including market expansion strategy, sales and marketing, payer contracting, patient experience, mergers and acquisitions and partnerships. The number of practice locations grew 400%. Earlier, Matt served as Vice President of Corporate Strategy and led many of the company’s venture capital investments.

Matt has held a number of roles at The Advisory Board Company, a research, technology and consulting company serving over 4,500 partner health care organizations. Matt developed and launched a number of products and services to help providers grow their patient panels and transition to value-based care, patient engagement and satisfaction, population health analytics, referral coordination, care management and clinical IT optimization.

Matt is a B.A. graduate of Davidson College and holds an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Paul Hain, MD

Chief Clinical Officer

Paul Hain, MD, joined Alo in October 2022 as Chief Clinical Officer. In this role Paul provides leadership and oversight of all of Alo’s clinical services and relationships. He advocates for comprehensive Primary Care to be at the center of the medical ecosystem and believes that patient safety, patient experience, and high-quality outcomes remain the cornerstones of great care. Leveraging his experience in both leading provider- and payor-based initiatives, Paul works to create and sustain high-performing practices and provider networks.  

Paul brings a wealth of experience as both a physician leader and innovator in value-based and ambulatory care. As VP for Population Health and Network Development at UT Southwestern and Dallas Children’s Hospital, Paul established a value-based care ambulatory clinic for children with chronic care needs. While still in Texas, Paul joined Blue Cross Blue Shield and was their Chief Medical Officer until 2020. During the pandemic, Paul was Chief Medical Officer for GoHealth, a Medicare Advantage focused corporation, where he helped develop the Encompass platform to better use data to supply primary care providers with actionable and timely data to improve the health of their patients. 

Paul completed medical school and residency in pediatrics at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Following residency, he founded Vanderbilt’s Pediatric Hospitalist Program. During his ten plus years on faculty, he held multiple hospital roles including Chief of Quality, Chief of Staff, and Director of Utilization Review. Paul also holds an engineering degree from Rice University and, prior to medical school, worked as a corrosion engineer in Alaska.

Amato Amarain

Chief Financial Officer

Amato Amarain joined Alo in April 2024 as Chief Financial Officer, overseeing all fiscal and fiduciary responsibilities, including Financial Planning & Analysis, Accounting, Revenue Cycle Management, and Capital Deployment.   

Amato is an experienced healthcare executive with a proven track record in strategic leadership and financial management across major academic medical centers and medical groups. With extensive experience in healthcare operations and finance, he excels in partnering with physicians, executive boards, and staff to achieve organizational goals and objectives. Throughout his career, Amato has successfully managed medical groups with over $2 billion in revenue, driving success by identifying areas for improvement and enhancing efficiencies.  

Amato's career highlights include restructuring MSO services across multiple entities, integrating major medical schools into medical group management, and overseeing significant revenue budget growth and physician employment expansions. He has also played pivotal roles in implementing EMR and billing systems across large healthcare systems. 

In addition to financial leadership roles at RWJ Barnabas Health and Northwell Health Physician Partners, Amato has consulted at various prestigious institutions and health systems, providing expertise in decision support systems, auditing, reporting policies, and contract review. 

Amato holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from St. John’s University and has completed the Academy for Healthcare Leadership Advancement at Cornell University. He is also a subject matter expert presenter in reimbursement, decision support, and business intelligence, and is affiliated with professional organizations such as HFMA, MGMA, and AMGA.

Angie Cain

Chief Administrative Officer

 

Angie Cain joined Alo in January 2023.  In her role as Chief Administrative Officer, she provides leadership and oversight of the organization’s human resources and administrative operations functions. 

Angie is a mission-driven leader with a longstanding commitment to optimizing the physician, employee, and patient experience. Prior to joining Alo, she served in Chief of Staff roles with the President of Novant Health Medical Group and the Chief Medical Officer of Duke University Health System.  In these roles she oversaw and operationalized key initiatives across a wide spectrum of responsibility, including Covid-related efforts in vaccine distribution and testing, clinical care redesign and program development, and provider wellbeing. 

Prior to her Chief of Staff roles, Angie held a number of human resources-focused roles at Duke University School of Medicine, where she worked to continually drive improved quality, processes, and end-user experience. A Florida native, Angie received her undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and has lived in North Carolina for over 20 years.

Martel Campbell

Chief Innovation Officer

 

Martel Campbell joined Alo in December 2021. He is responsible for leading long-term strategic planning, growth, and corporate development initiatives including M&A and market expansion opportunities.  

Martel led business development activities at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina for two years before joining Alo. In this role he helped establish the company's Diversified Business Group and spearheaded the strategy development and execution of the Blue Cross NC and Deerfield Management joint venture, which led to the creation of Alo.  

Before joining Blue Cross NC, Martel held a number of corporate development and corporate strategy roles at The Advisory Board Company, Optum and UnitedHealthcare. 

Martel holds a B.A. in Economics from Davidson College.

Lynn Gordon

Chief Legal & Compliance Officer

Lynn Gordon joined Alo as Head of Legal and Compliance in January 2022. Throughout Lynn’s 25+ year career in health care law, she has worked extensively in forming health care companies, handling M&A and providing corresponding compliance support. Lynn was drawn to Alo’s mission based on her rewarding experiences in building and bolstering provider relationships focused on quality and value-based care. Lynn facilitates simpler provider navigation of a complex regulatory environment, so that physicians can focus on clinical care and patient relationships.

Prior to joining Alo, Lynn served as General Counsel for Novant Health Coastal Region and Chief Legal Officer and GC for its predecessor, New Hanover Regional. She also served in law firm legal/strategic advisor roles for 20 years, most recently as an Equity Partner and Health Care Department Chair, Chicago Office for Nixon Peabody, a Global/AmLaw 100 law firm.

Lynn has led over 75 formations, mergers and acquisitions of hospitals, health systems and physician practices—most recently New Hanover’s 7 hospital system restructuring and $2B sale to Novant Health, including New Hanover Medical Group (300+ providers).

Lynn also developed horizontally and vertically integrated delivery systems and supporting capitated and value-based care in the Chicago healthcare community for over two decades. This included providing legal/strategic guidance to Cook County Health and Hospitals System in developing/implementing its 1115 Medicaid Waiver Program—now an MCCN, CountyCare (with a $1.8B annual State contract).

Lynn holds a J.D. from Loyola University Chicago School of Law, an M.A. from North Carolina State University and a B.A. from Michigan State University.
